U R HERE
"WE ARE TOGETHER, BUT EACH OF US IS IN OUR OWN BUBBLE, FURIOUSLY CONNECTED TO KEYBOARDS AND TINY TOUCH SCREENS.”
Sherry Turkle, MIT Professor & Author
LOGLINE: Four Gen-Zers, shaped by the smartphone era and its relentless anxieties, ditch their devices to detox on a road trip across America, seeking real conversations, raw experiences, and a sense of self beyond the screen.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS: u r here is a story of connection, self-discovery, and the search for presence in a hyper-digital world. A group of Gen Zers, weary of TikTok loops and 24-hour news cycles, embark on an analog road trip down Route 66—a journey through the heart of America and away from the noise of their modern lives. No Google Maps. No Spotify. No Instagram. Just a paper road map, cassette tapes, and point-n-shoot cameras.
Told as an impressionistic, hybrid documentary feature, u r here unfolds through constructed vignettes, vérité interactions, and personal reflections. Their narrative is guided by raw 8mm footage, photographs, and voice over readings from intimate travel diaries, weaving together the fleeting magic of the moment with deeper themes of belonging and change. As the travelers near the Pacific, their newfound clarity collides with the inevitable return to the digital world they escaped. Do they go back unchanged, or has this journey rewired something deeper? The film closes with a glimpse into their post-trip lives, revealing whether they could hold onto what they found—or if the pull of the screen proved too strong.
u r her is presently in the development stage with principal production slated to begin in autumn 2025.
